Simple to use - Built around the concept of entities and relationships, simple to use and understand (using the investigator's own language), yet far from simplistic in its capability.

Scalable - From a single user on a notebook computer to thousands of users serviced by a wide area network.

Secure - A fine grained security model manages the access to every individual piece of evidence stored. Uses a system of roles and permissions to manage access to functionality. Allows different agencies or departments to use the same database and control the access to their information by users from other agencies or departments. Logs all user actions for all users - log on, log off, unsuccessful log on, create, modify (stores original and updated versions of all changes), delete, search criteria, view and print. No user can physically delete any entry, so any "deleted" record can be viewed by an appropriate user, if required.

Highly Configurable - Usable out of the box, but easily customized - almost every aspect can be made to suit the structure and work practices of any organization undertaking investigations.

Flexible Date and Time Recording - Allows recording of and searching for exact dates/times, unbroken date/time ranges, broken date/time ranges, and unknown dates/times. Also allows the time zone to be specified for any occurrence.

Complete - Stores structured information about any entity (predefined entities include Person, Location and Vehicle). Stores images, documents, video and sound in the database, subject to security and auditing. Images can be annotated and linked.

Extensible - Allows the user to define extensions to the existing entity types and the definition of new entity types.

Workflow - In-built tasking can create, schedule and manage tasks for large investigation teams. Advice of new tasks can be automatically emailed to recipients of the tasks.

Powerful Searching - All text entered is searchable - including text in PDF documents, Word documents, Excel spreadsheets and PowerPoint presentations. Searches can be simple exact matches or can include complex Boolean expressions and wildcards. Entity Pattern Search, Thesaurus based Search and Convergence Searches are also available.

Entity Watch - Entity Watch can be applied to any entity to allow users to be notified of other users accessing that entity. The Entity Watch can be overt, or covert.

Data Import and Export - Can import and export data in XML format. Data can also be exchanged as a flat file.
