Learn how Investigator is extensively used by the CCC to to manage their investigations, and to provide the data, and the audit trail, necessary to secure the closure of a case
The Corruption and Crime Commission (CCC) of Western Australia (WA) accepts and investigates allegations of misconduct by WA police officers and public officers including officers employed in local government.
It has the ability to authorize the use of exceptional investigative powers for the purpose of investigating organized crime, and it conducts education programs with public sector authorities and in the wider community to increase the awareness of misconduct and how to prevent it.
The CCC deals with many cases with high public interest and has responsibility to the WA Parliament.
The CCC needed a solution to manage their investigative operations which included recording allegations and managing information and activities related to their investigative duties.
Investigator has enhanced the management of CCC cases from the initial notification or allegation of misconduct, through the entire investigative process to its completion, and has allowed for the collection and analysis of intelligence and statistical data. The software makes a significant contribution to investigations immediately after an Information Report, Incident Report or Case Investigation is created.
According to Nick Anticich, Director of Operations at the CCC,
"The real power of JADE Investigator lies in its ability to manage case activities and visually identify connections between seemingly unrelated information, including all the data captured during past and current investigations. We suddenly gain a 360 degree view of a piece of information, confident that we can quickly assess its relevance and importance to the investigation."
In the year to 30 June, 2009, the CCC assessed 2,838 misconduct complaints and notifications containing 3,205 allegations from agencies and the public. It monitored the progress of 1,989 misconduct investigations it referred to public authorities and reviewed 1,938 reports of completed investigations by these public authorities. Through these processes, the Commission dealt with 6,765 matters related to public sector misconduct allegations.
During the 2008-09 year, Commission investigations resulted in 14 people, including 10 public officers, being charged with 81 criminal offences, and 16 people, including eight public officers, being convicted on 101 charges.
